Tournament Information

There will be three divisions, determined by rating cutoffs (see table below), plus one open Collins division. Players may request to play up into any higher division (Unlimited Play Up).

Pairing methods used will depend on division sizes. If a division has 20 or fewer players, it will have one complete Round Robin, (plus Swiss and/or KOH rounds), plus a final King-of-the-Hill. If a division has more than 20 players, the director may start with an incomplete Round Robin before switching to Swiss and/or KOH rounds.

Division Rating Entry Fee*
One 1600+ $110
Two 1100-1599  $90
Three 0-1099  $75
Collins Open $110

The Collins (CSW) division will be running concurrently as one open division, with an entry fee of $110. We will be using NASPA rules except for 10-point penalty per word for unsuccessful challenges (if the play is ruled acceptable the challenger is penalized 10 points per word challenged). The CSW division will be rated by both NASPA and WESPA. New to Collins/CSW? Check our Study Tools page for some starter Collins Word lists.

Director retains the right to move entrants to maintain balanced divisions. The entrant's published rating as of Nov 9th, will determine division placement unless a player has requested to play up. Unrated players will be placed at the director's discretion. Lynn Dreyer will direct the tournament.

*Payment and registration received by August 11th enters player into drawing for full refund of entry fee;
payment or registration received after October 26th will be assessed a $15 late fee.

Registration, payment, and cancellation deadline: Noon Pacific Time, November 9th.

All participants must be current members of the North American SCRABBLE Players Association (NASPA) to compete in this tournament.
NASPA membership not up to date?   You can join or renew online at: www.scrabbleplayers.org/w/Membership.

Remember to bring your own board, racks, tiles & clock, and your preferred score sheets.

FOTD: To reduce the number of tally slip errors (which delays the tournament and aggravates the staff), we will once again be using Fontes' "Friend of the Director" system: If there is an error or omission on a tally slip, each player will be charged $1 per error. All monies collected will be awarded in a drawing as prizes to players who made no errors.

All participants are expected to know and follow the Official Tournament Rules.
Collins division only will use 10-point challenge penalty

Is this your first Tournament?

If you have never played in a tournament before, we strongly suggest you visit your local SCRABBLE® club and play a few (or better yet, several) games. This will help you learn the mechanics of club and tournament play (how to draw tiles, announcing the score, using the clock, etc.) in a fairly relaxed setting. You will find the tournament experience much more enjoyable if you are already comfortable with proper procedure.

Prize Package

The prize package will return 100% of entry fees, after actual expenses.
In addition to place prizes, cash prize for high play, high game, and high loss.
Bonus Prize: Free registration to Emerald City SCRABBLE® 2012 to the person who raises his or her rating the most points as a result of this Tournament (worth up to $110).

QUIZ NIGHT

For the second year, this fun free event will take place Friday evening November 11th, starting about 8:30pm, in the playing room. Teams of players (up to 5 per team) will compete to answer trivia questions, word games, and solve puzzles (some will be Scrabble-related). No fee to enter. We'll have some fun prizes for the winners.
